On Thursday, August 27 at 5 pm, the Old Forge Library, 220 Crosby Blvd., will host the Town of Webb Historical Association's weekly Local History series. This last program of the very popular series of summer presentations will feature Town Historian, Kristy Rubyor, as she discusses Moss Lake: the Other Story.
This year is the 50th Anniversary of the Mohawk Indian Occupation of Moss Lake. On May 13, 1974, a convoy of Mohawks from Akwesasne and Kahnawake converged on Moss Lake. They occupied the former girls' summer camp and claimed it as part of their ancestral homeland. The tense occupation lasted three years.
Kristy has lived in the Old Forge area her entire life. Her lineage can be traced over eight generations in the Adirondack Park and five generations within the Town of Webb. She is a graduate of the Town of Webb Schools, and has been an employee at the Town of Webb Historical Association for over 10 years.
The presentation is free and open to the public and all are welcome.
